Yesterday we hit the road at 7am to get to the airport for our 9:30 flight, only to discover that at the last minute the plane had been delayed until 12:30. To compensate us for wasting our time the airline they gave us food vouchers to be used at a shop near the gate. Our choices for lunch were; a hot dog, cake or noodle soup. There were literally cockroaches crawling on top of the hot dogs. The cockroaches were everywhere, on the walls, counters, pretty much anywhere you looked you saw one crawling. I opted eat the noodle soup, as it came from a sealed container and was wrapped in plastic, while watching in disgust as my fellow passengers ate the cockroach hot dogs.
We spent this morning laying around the beach at Nha Trang, enjoying the sea breeze, some sunshine and reading books. This afternoon we rented a motorbike and went to a place called Thap Ba Hot Springs.
We arrived about 2 hours before they were closing and it seemed that most people were on their way out.
There were two large swimming pools that were heated by a hot spring. The larger of the two was essentially an enormous pool sized hot tub.
There was this skinny Russian guy wearing a Speedo standing on one side of the swimming pool. He was holding a video camera in his hand and was zoomed all the way in to the face of a similar looking Russian girl who was sitting in the pool on her own. It turned out that the guy and girl were together. They took turns filming each other in the weirdest ways and for a really long time. They would act as if the camera person wasn't there but then would take awkward sideways glances at the camera. It was like something the creepy guy from American Beauty would have done only there were two of them. If there is a show in Russia called "Russia's Awkwardest Home Videos" I am sure they will be in the running for the 1,000,000 Rubles prize.
After we relaxed in the pools we went off to have a mud bath. We paid less money to have a public mud bath but as it was later in the day hardly anyone was around so we got to have a private mud bath. After the mud bath we had showers and then went between these two walls that shot warm water at us from all different angles and then we got to relax in a warm mineral bath. We got to enjoy all of this for only $5.
