Rocks and Rolling

Yesterday, we went to our hotel for lunch and the guy who worked there was eating, so I asked him what it was and he took a spoon full of some spicy pork concoction, with his own unused spoon, and offered it to me. I tried to be polite and pour it into my hand to not touch his spoon with my mouth but he just put his spoon into my mouth and while I chewed it he took a bite for himself, using the same spoon. I’m not sure what the dish was exactly but it was delicious and I thought it was really nice of the guy to have shared some with me.

In the afternoon, we took out our hotels free kayaks and paddled down to the grandmother and grandfather rocks. I’ll give you a minute to ponder what rocks called such names could possibly look like.

What you imagined? Me neither. Those are parts of my grandparents I never want to imagine!

In the evening, it started to downpour rain, so much that our shower drain was backfilling with what I am going to pretend was only brown water. We put our stuff in a place that was sure not to be flooded and took a songthaew to the next beach town north called Chaweng Beach. This is where there are a lot of resorts that are filled with Europeans. We ran into a British couple we had seen earlier while in the Khao Sok National Park. They had gone trekking the day after us and had both been bitten by leaches, the girl on her hip and the guy on his stomach.

Today was a travel day. We woke up early and headed out of the door by 7am to take a songthaew to the pier where we caught a ferry to Don Sak, from there we boarded a bus which took us to the outskirts of Surat Thani. We took a songthaew to central Surat Thani where we boarded a bus to the airport. We then flew from Surat Thani to Bangkok’s old airport Don Muang. From Don Muang we boarded a train for a two hour trip to Ayutthaya. Once in Ayutthaya we walked to a ferry and then walked the final 1.7km’s to our hotel where we arrived at 6pm. In recap that was:
songthaew -> ferry -> bus -> songthaew -> bus -> plane -> train -> ferry, a very busy travel day.
