Night Market Shopping

Chiang Mai Night Market

I finally bought some stuff!!! Tonight we went to the Night Market with a plan to spend. Janelle was on the prawl for some fisherman's pants and I was looking for a speaker to listen to my Apple iPod Classic and some new headphones as mine are in the process of failing. First we needed to eat though.

The night markets have a cafeteria that uses the same voucher system as the shopping mall we visited in Bangkok. You prepay for tickets and use them to trade for your food and then if you have any tickets left over at the end of the night you can sell them back.

All of the entrées were 50 BHT or less but the beers were 90 BHT which is how they get you, a cheap meal can quickly turn expensive with too many beers. Unfortunately for the masterminds behind that scheme, I was looking to spend my money tonight on something more tangible.

After dinner we looked all over for electronics and found a lot of interesting things. Some large seafood on ice:

Some Obama cologne:

I finally found one guy who had both speakers and headphones. Janelle was working the guy on the price of the speaker while I worked on the headphones, distracting him back and forth. We both finally drove him down to a price we were happy with individually and then told him we wanted another discount for buying both of them together. The guy finally agreed, I'm sure he still made a bundle of money on us, but at least we were happy and felt that we had bartered hard and gotten a good deal.

I got these headphones:

Something tells me they are NOT real.

We got this portable speaker

Janelle also got a bracelet and a small change purse, but no fisherman's pants. Click on the slideshow below to see the rest of today's pictures.
