Wetness

It rained all night last night and only just stopped as we were preparing to go out for the day. We have booked a night bus tonight for 7:30pm for the 9 hour journey North to Mandalay. Meaning we will arrive in Mandalay around 4:30am a time that makes no sense at all. It seems that all of the bus times either leave in the morning which means you waste the day on the bus or take an awkwardly timed night bus as we are doing tonight.

We headed out to explore more of Yangon in our tennis shoes and tried to avoid all of the puddles but eventually hit a road that was flooded all the way across and was impassable without getting wet so we went back and swapped out our tennis shoes for flip flops and waded through the puddles along with all of the locals.

We went to a couple of markets and tea shops just wandering around the city and waiting for our night bus. The Aussie guy and French girl decided to join us on the night bus and we all took a taxi to the bus station together as it was 45 minutes by car outside of the city. On the way we got the driver to stop at a local restaurant for some food and drinks.

The bus station in Yangon is massive with over 150 different companies all using the same station, it is probably several miles of bus station. We ate our dinner and had a couple of more drinks while we were waiting. There are no sleeper buses in Myanmar, they are all upright seating buses without toilets. As soon as the bus pulled out towards Mandalay we all had to go to the bathroom and tried to hold it. The first stop wasn't until midnight and we were all busting. We finally shouted for the bus driver to pull over and we all ran into the bushes on the side of the highway. One of my greatest pee's of all time! At midnight we stopped at a massive roadside restaurant where I had some fried bread covered with sugar, it was delicious.
