Our trek consisted of Janelle, myself, a strange french man who spoke less English than I speak French, Mr. Kai our guide and our cook who's name I could never understand. The trek was through small villages, vegetable and rice fields, up hills, through forests and ended at Inle Lake where we caught a boat for two hours across the lake while looking at the fisherman and floating villages.
For lunch on the first day we stopped in a small village and the cook knocked on doors until someone answered and he used their kitchen to cook and we sat in their lounge to chat and have lunch. We spent the night in another village and had the best food we have eaten in Myanmar prepared by the cook.
Conversations with Mr. Kai were incredible, we talked about politics, culture, farming, life in America, New Zealand and Myanmar. Mr Kai echoed the sentiment that I had first heard 3 years ago while traveling abroad about widespread international support for Barack Obama.
We got to eat fresh produce straight out of the ground and talk with local people, it was beautiful, cultural and amazing. Here are some of my favorite pictures:
