Wednesday I decided to take a little walk/jog because my knees have been feeling much better and I haven't really exercised much, so I started out jogging around the streets of my Aunt's neighborhood. I jogged for 15 minutes in one direction and then turned around to come back. I would have taken a circular route, but I was afraid I would get lost and end up being out there much longer than I wanted to . As I was jogging back my right knee started to hurt and I stopped jogging and finished walking the rest of the way home. Overall I felt good and happy with myself, my body wasn't too sore and it felt good to be getting exercise again.
My aunt told me this story of her dance instructors friend, who for the sake of this blog is named Alice. Alice is a student and her boyfriend's parents were going out of town and asked Alice to watch their place and dog in Toronto. In case you don't know, as I didn't know, Toronto is a big city and many people, especially students don't have their own cars and only use public transportation. On Alice's second morning she woke up and the dog was gone, she searched high and low for the dog but couldn't find it. Then she found it dead in the basement of the house. Alice called the vet and they told her that if she could bring the dog in to them, they could dispose of the body. Since Alice didn't have a car, she would have to take the dead dog on the train with her to get to the vet's office. Alice didn't want to carry a dead dog in her hands, so she looked around for something to put him in and found a large suitcase that she was able to stuff him into. Alice had a pretty hard time getting the suitcase out of the basement, but it did have wheels, so once on level ground it wasn't so bad. As Alice was taking the suitcase to the train station, she decided that she would say the suitcase is full of electronics if anyone asks why she has such a large suitcase on the train. Fortunately the train ride went off without incident and no one asked her anything. When she got to the station where the vets office was there was another set of stairs to climb. She slowly worked up them and then was approached by a man who offered to help her and she accepted. As he got to the top he told her that it was very heavy and inquired as to what was in the bag. She told him it was electronics she was taking to a shop to be repaired. He promptly punched her in the face and stole the suitcase.
What a crazy story I thought, I cannot imagine what the guy thought when he got back to his lair (because of course all evil people live in lairs) and opened the bag to discover not electronics but a giant dead dog!
Last night I was laying in bed and I thought to myself, this story sounds ridiculous and this morning I Googled it and found out that it is in fact a urban legend and not a true story. I let my aunt know and we sent an email to her dance instructor. It is a pretty good story though.
Today I woke up early to go to Port Stanley with my aunt, a beach area on Lake Erie. Apparently my muscles weren't doing as well as I thought yesterday, I am sore, very sore. On the way to Port Stanley we stopped to get gas and the car in front of us was a couple taking pictures of themselves getting gas. Tourists, haha!
Port Stanley is pretty cool, it's a large beach along Lake Erie, with some restaurants and volleyball courts. One a cool weekday in June it wasn't crowded at all but I could envision people running around and all the noise and excitement that accompanies this.
On the way home we went and say a memorial to a Barnum and Baley Elephant that was killed by a railroad car in 1885. We also passed a “massage, showers and hot tubs” business, maybe I'll take the whole family there the next time I come to town.
