Full Day

Today was a very full and wonderful day. I slept in late because I was up late on Tuesday night watching a movie. The movie was called “The Dreamers” and was interesting, but I wouldn't recommend it.

My cousin's Madison and Nicole, who I haven't seen in person in at least 8 years and maybe more came and met me for lunch. We went to Angelo's where neither they nor myself had been to before. When we walked in, it was an organic looking grocery store. I told them if they wanted to get rid of me that quickly, they should have just told me “no” to lunch. It turns out they have a deli counter, with sandwiches, pizza, salads and pasta and a large seating area on the other side of the store. Madison got a sub sandwich that was very wide and tall, it barely fit in her hands and Nicole and I both got personal pizzas. The pizza I got was called “The Canadian” and had pepperoni, bacon and mushrooms on it. We talked about our families and our lives and our jobs and our futures. It was really nice to see them, I for one had a good time.

When I got back to my aunt Sarah's house I decided I need to try to start doing some exercise of some kind and so I took the family dog Shaggy for a walk around the neighborhood. When we got to the first tree he went pee, at the second tree he went pee, at the third, fourth and so on, he is addicted to peeing on trees. Finally I decided that that was enough peeing and we needed to get walking, so I told him “no” and tugged him along. He was doing okay, but then he really dug in to make me stop and I figured he needed to 'take a solid' but no, he just peed again. He did this technique a couple more times and I waited to see, but he was just faking me out and taking tiny territory marking pees. I finally made him stop and made him walk like a nice boy.

After my little walk it was time to eat again. I know I talk about eating a lot, it's what everyone who reads my blog tells me, but events happen around meals because that's when people come together, so bug off ehh. (See I'm becoming a Canadian already) I drove back over to my grandparents house to go out to a Chinese buffet for dinner. They have a 2 for 1 special on Wednesdays and my grandparents friend was supposed to meet us but never showed up. The buffet was good, and my grandparents still love me even after I stayed with them for a few days.

My aunt Sarah gives speeches on mental health for a living at companies and she is also a member of Toastmasters, which is a leadership, speech giving, and listening club. Tonight she was giving a comedic speech on exercise and personal experiences and I went to watch her. She did a really good job, except that she had her phone on, so that I could call her if I got lost and it went off during her speech. I quickly reached over towards her purse to try to turn it off and to also let people know that it was her phone, not mine that was making noise. No one wants to be the rude new guy. They also have activities where they try to get other people to speak and be comfortable speaking in front of the group and they did an exercise where pictures were given to 5 people and they only had one minute to look at it and then they had to pretend to be a lawyer defending the guilty looking person in the photograph. I participated in this and my picture was this one:

I explained that my client was driving the Cat Truck, while at work and a maniac in the red pickup truck came out of nowhere and started to circle my client, like trying to bring down a walker in the Star Wars movies. My client tried to get the pickup to go away, but he kept making circles around the Cat and finally got too close and got run over. After everyone did theirs there was a ballot vote for the best and I won. Probably because I was new and I participated but I got a ribbon anyway!

My aunt and her daughters are all involved in dance classes and tonight my Aunt was going to her Adult Jazz class and invited me to come and participate. It has been at least 11 years since I last took a jazz dance class, but I'm out here to experience things, so I agreed. It turns out I wasn't awful, but when I do spins, I spin on my heal instead of my toe. The group of people in the class and the instructor were all very nice, so I had a good time. When my sister and mom were in Canada last, they also came to this class with my aunt. My sister participated and my mom sat in the corner and took pictures. Tonight, the instructor asked my aunt “Is everyone in your family outgoing?”, because we are all willing to make a fool of ourselves in front of strangers I suppose. I also got to do my special dance move, and I was pretty excited about that. My aunt was telling me that the other guy in the dance class can do a russian, where you jump and extend your legs into a split like move and reach for your toes. Then I told her I could do one also, and so we had a russian dance battle, that consisted of him jumping and then me jumping, not much of a battle, but when I only have one move, that's all you get.

So far I feel like Canada is pretty much the same as America (or “The States”) with the exception of the funny money they use in Canada. Every denomination is a different color and they they have lots of security features. The other difference I have noticed is that all packaging up here has both English and French. However, I am yet to hear anyone speaking French.
