T-Minus 1 Month

French, Spanish, American and Irish

I had a couple of long days and long nights, so I decided that I would take it easy and go to a Brazilian film festival (In Hungary) and then head home to bed. The film festival was interesting, I watched a terrible short film about a guy who is a construction worker and his lone pleasure is singing karaoke and dreaming of becoming a star, but he is just a construction worker and it is just a dream. It seemed like something two guys made together for fun but then the credits rolled and there were over 100 names listed as having worked on the 11 minute short.

When I got back to the hostel, ready to call it a night, I found the room full of seven Irish guys drinking and ready to go out. They offered me a beer and invited me to come along. My parents raised me right and as such I couldn’t refuse the invitation and joined them for a night out. They invited me to join with them in everything they did and we had a great time both that night and the next. They were really great guys and it very much makes me want to go to Ireland, but I’m not going to have time on this trip.

For Lunch the next day I went and got Chinese food, it is cheap and delicious, and the woman was asking me what size I wanted. “Biggie or Small” she was saying and I made the hand gesture for big and said “big”. The woman grabbed the small plate, and I shook my head and made the big gesture and she grabbed that plate until I said “big” and then she put it down and grabbed the small plate again. I think in Hungarian, or whatever language she was using there are words that sound like “big” and “small” but actually mean the opposite.

I'm in Belgrade now, I got here Saturday night. My train was supposed to arrive at 8:30pm but it was two hours late because some station was closed and the train how to be rerouted. On the train my computer died and I didn’t have the file I needed with the address or directions to my hostel. There wasn’t an information desk at the train station so I headed into the city and looked for another hostel that would hopefully know where my hostel was. I had to go to two hostels and finally a hotel to find my hostel. It was a huge mess and will hopefully encourage me from now on to be sure to have directions before I leave one town for the next.
