Flying

Roman Ruins

Last night I went to bed early because I could start to feel a cold coming on and I figured it would be better to rest up. I had decided to head East in Morocco to Fes in the morning. I woke up in the middle of the night and I was really cold and I had to go to the bathroom very badly. As I usually do when I’m tired I ignore the urges to solve the problem and stay in bed instead trying to sleep.

This worked for a little while until there was vigorous slamming of doors and people shouting. I looked at my watch and it was only 8:30 and I tried to go back to sleep. I put my ear plugs in and closed my eyes, but my ears were sore from the coming of a cold and I couldn’t really get back to sleep. I finally climbed out of bed and went to the bathroom and saw that all the doors to all of the rooms in the hotel were open and all the bed sheets were being cleaned. By cleaned I mean beaten against the railings of the hotel.

I decided that I didn’t feel like going anywhere today and it wouldn’t hurt me to spend another day in Rabat. There were still some sights in town that I hadn’t yet seen.

I walked to the south side of town and looked at the roman and ancient Islamic ruins. Then I walked along the coast listening to music and relaxing in the shade. When I got further North in town I came to a mosque that was going to be the world’s second largest mosque but the king died and the project was abandoned.

I stood on the top of a hill looking at the ocean and city below with music playing and I felt like I was flying. I had thoughts of the scene from the Titanic only I didn’t feel cheesy I felt happy and free and I wanted to fly.

I’m still feeling sick and tomorrow I’m definitely going to leave Rabat but I don’t know if I’m going to head east to Meknes and or Fes or if I’m going to head North. If I go North I won’t come back to Meknes or Fes before I head to Europe, so I need to decide if they are important to me.

I have been requested to post more picture and Blogger has a terrible interface for uploading pictures, I have to select each picture one at a time. I am going to try to use links for pictures hosted on Picasa for now. Let me know what you think.
