Perfectly in the shade
I went to the front desk and asked to change rooms today, they obliged and I made sure they changed the sheets. I headed to town to see what I could find to do. I followed the crowds around town and then down by a pier. There were people wearing beach gear and I figured I would follow them. The people flowed down a path and then onto some rocks with some little boats that people were piling into tighter than Grande Taxi’s. I heard a woman speak in English and I asked her if she knew where the boats were going to. She told me they were going to the beach for 3 DH or I could join her and her friends, they were taking a private boat. There were three girls all from England and two of the girl’s had parents who were from Morocco and they regularly spent summers here. I joined them on their boat and then went with them to the beach where we rented chairs and an umbrella for me to hide under.
The girls recounted stories for me of years past at the beach and how crowded it used to be and how it used to be the best place but things had changed and it wasn’t so great anymore. The water at the beach was freezing but refreshing. I hadn’t planned to go to the beach today and so I wasn’t wearing a swimming suit, so I only went in a little bit. The waves looked really strong and the women assured me the waves were really strong.
I don’t know what to call a female in her early 20’s is she a woman or a girl. I usually say girl because I think a woman is old, but I’m getting old myself. The people that I see and think are close to my age are usually in their late teens or early 20’s I wonder when my perception on people and myself will change.
On the way back one of the girls swam behind the boat and the other two girls took turns rowing the boat. I tried to give them money for everything and the kept refusing. I must look really poor because everyone is always paying for me, not that I mind. I’m going to stay in Larache tomorrow as well and go to another beach.
