Mountain of Backpacks

We got back in a mini bus and again took it across two ferries back to the mainland of Thailand heading towards Krabi and Aonang Beach about two and a half hours Northwest of Ko Lanta. The mini bus that we were on to get to Ko Lanta had plenty of room, Janelle and I had a whole row to ourselves and our luggage was elsewhere in the bus. On this bus ride out of Ko Lanta however, every seat on the bus was full and I was wedged amongst a tower of other people's backpacks. Every time the driver would make a quick turn, which happened quite often, the backpacks would tumble down on my head burying me amongst them.

After two and a half hours of dodging and supporting oversized backpacks we made it to Krabi. We only needed to go another 17 km to get to our accommodation. Instead of dropping us in the middle of town or at the bust station in Krabi, our mini bus dropped us in the middle of nowhere at the tour companies headquarters. To get the 17 km to our hotel they wanted to charge us an additional 300 BHT each, a staggeringly enormous figure considering we had only paid 350 BHT each for the two and a half hour ride to get to Krabi. The tour company also refused to drop us anywhere else, so after much arguing and no budging on their side, we stormed off towards town.
Normally I would have walked about a mile in the blazing heat until sweat was coming out of all of my pores before I would start to think clearly and come up with a new plan. Luckily, Janelle was with me and had a much cooler head and suggested we ask surrounding tour companies for other options.
The first place we asked the guy told us there was a public bus that comes every 20 minutes and costs only 50 BHT and would take us straight to our hotel. Its amazing to me how helpful some people are and how unhelpful others can be. The company that had already made 700 BHT off of us only wanted to make more money whereas a man who made nothing off of us was willing to help us.
The amazing view from our hotel window!!!
